Materials, Tools and Equipment

Tools and Equipment

I give guidance and training on the use of all the tools and equipment.

Each student has the use of an air driven staple gun with the air supplied by 'silent' compressors. There are sewing machines, overlockers, a foam cutter and a button making tool.

There is also a selection of hand tools that students can use during the class, but I encourage them to have their own tools so they can work on their projects between classes. I can assist and advise on the purchase of tools which will vary slightly according to the type of furniture being upholstered, and I can order these as well.

List of desirable hand tools:

Magnetic hammer, ripping chisel, tape measure, small (4”) scissors, cutting out scissors (8” or 10”), tack remover, screwdriver, webbing stretcher, pliers, staple removers, curved needles - 2 inch and 5 inch, regulator, double pointed needles - 12 inch, upholstery skewers and upholstery pins.

Materials

I can advise on the suitability of top cover fabrics and where to get them, and I can supply some fabrics. I also have inner materials, springs and legs for stools and chairs available for students.
