These sessions are open to people of all abilities. If you are new to upholstery I suggest you start with a small project such as a stool, dropin seat, dining chair or bedhead. You can then progress to armchairs in various styles. With some experience you can also do settees and chaise longues by prior arrangement because you would take up 2 workspaces.

Work on furniture includes renovation of joints and finishes, replacement of springs where necessary, replacement of fillings either antique or modern, and finally fire retardant top quality fillings and coverings to comply with current legislation. Design concepts are covered by discussion about shape, fabrics and trimmings.

NOTE: There is no overnight storage space at Heysham unless you come for two consecutive days

Many students stay for the whole day and bring a packed lunch. Drinks are available all day.

The Heysham classes are held in my workshop with up to six students. There is sufficient parking on drive and road for cars. Students mainly come from the area from Garstang to Kendal - and stretching east to Kirkby Lonsdale. However some have come from as far as Warrington, Ulverston and Barrow-in-Furness. The classes are generally run weekly but you can request as many dates as you wish. It is important to book in advance especially if you have a large piece of furniture to upholster.
